4 Things To Do To Effectively Manage Your Large Project

Have you ever gotten excited about an idea only to have your momentum wained by the overwhelm of launching your project?

Met too.

I’ve developed these five rules when starting a project so keep organized and successful:

1) A good statement of work (SOW)

A lot of things are accomplished simply by stating the project goal in the form of a SOW. If you have a good SOW, you can begin the planning process and be confident that you are starting the project on the same page if you are working with a team. Here's what the statement of work should contain (at a minimum):

  • A basic resource list that outlines the skillsets needed to do the work

  • Rough estimates of milestones and dates for the project

  • Any assumptions being were made

  • Goals and objectives for the project

2) A high-level project schedule based on milestones and dates in the SOW

This gives you a starting point. Likely, it will evolve and be rebuild as the project evolves.

3) A project budget

This will grow into one of the most important tools on the project. A budget analysis and re-forecasting is one of the most critical and key tasks that the project manager will do.

4) High-level project requirements

Build out the detailed requirements of each phase by drafting the project schedule, and planned tactical steps.
